Swiss citizens Paul and Bertha Sahli, arrived in Chile in 1913. Their eldest son, Fernando, leases the Crillón Hotel and invites his siblings, Pablo and Raul, to join him in the business. The Crillón Hotel opened in 1931 becoming the most luxurious hotel in Santiago and an elegant social events centre. The hotel closed in 1978 however Fernando’s sons continued working in the hotel industry. Felipe, who studied in Lausanne, Switzerland, was involved in the setting up of the Holiday Inn hotels in Chile and Buenos Aires. He later created The Singular Hotel concept and opened The Singular Patagonia in 2011 and The Singular Santiago in 2014.

The Sociedad Explotadora Tierra del Fuego was founded. It became the largest stock breeder company in the Chilean and Argentinian Patagonia, extending to an area of approximate three million hectares. Sara Braun, Jose Menendez, Gustavo A. Oehninger, Guillermo Wilms and Ramon Serrano were among its first shareholders.
Puerto Natales was named by German pioneers Ernest von Heinz and Kurt Meyer. On Christmas Eve, they caught sight of the river flowing into the northern part of the city, naming it name Natalis which means birth in latin.
The Sociedad Explotadora Tierra del Fuego acquires a large amount of fiscal land in the Chilean Patagonia at the inlet of Last Hope. The construction of the largest cold storage plant Puerto Bories begins located 5kms from Puerto Natales.
Puerto Natales of the Last Hope province, located at 247 kms North of Punta Arenas, is officially founded by the Spanish navigator Juan Ladrillero.
Operational period of the cold storage plant, built between the years 1912–1914. It was finally expropriated and for different reasons, suffered subsequent deterioration and dismantling of part of the premises which lead to the final site closure.
Torres del Paine National Park is founded. It is currently one of the largest national parks in Chile, and the third most visited by foreign and local tourists. It is located at 112 kms from the city of Puerto Natales.
Puerto Bories cold storage plant is declared a listed building due to its industrial heritage value which originated the city of Puerto Natales. Built in brickwork in a post Victorian architectural style, it became the largest stock breeder export company in the area. The Singular Patagonia has preserved most of the monument’s façade, as well as exhibiting several pieces of industrial machinery of British origin.
The Singular Hotel Patagonia opens its doors to welcome guests to its premises, including the cold storage plant of Puerto Bories now a museum with a unique post Victorian architectural style.
The Singular Santiago hotel works begin. The project comprises 6,500 m2 of built area divided into nine floors which include 62 rooms, a restaurant, spa, gym, terrace and luxury meeting rooms. The architectural design was led by Federico Prieto and the interior design by Enrique Concha.
The Singular Santiago opens its doors October 1st. The hotel’s black front and two brickwork volumes perfectly blend into the surrounding architectural style of the area and continuous façade of Merced street.
The Singular Patagonia Puerto Bories Hotel and The Singular Santiago Lastarria Hotel obtained membership to The Leading Hotels of the World. This international group harbours luxury hotels around the world, selected upon its high standards and quality service.
