Lastarria, formerly known as “La Cañada”, was the first neighbourhood founded in the city of Santiago. Its historical and cultural surroundings emerge from a natural walk through Parque Forestal, National Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Lucia hill, and the city`s Municipal Theatre. The tour ends with a variety of restaurants, pubs and independent design shops which consolidate this area as one the most attractive and visited of the city.

National Museum of Fine Arts

The National Museum of Fine Arts or Palacio de Bellas Artes was inaugurated on 21st September 1910. It was the main architectural work built to celebrate the Chilean Independence Centenary (1810 – 1910.) Designed by Emilio Jecquier, he was inspired by the internal circulation and façade of the Petit Palais in Paris.

Santiago's cathedral

One of the most important symbols of Catholicism in Chile and as an establishment of official religion, with the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors in the sixteenth century. Inside, a crypt houses the remains of archbishops and bishops of Chile. In addition, it emphasizes the Monument to the Heroes of the Battle of the Conception, that keeps the four hearts of the fallen captains in combat.

Santa Lucía hill

Urban park located in the heart of Santiago. It is bordered to the south by Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Avenue, where the subway station is located, to the west with Calle Santa Lucía, to the north with Merced Street and to the east with Victoria Subercaseaux Street. It has a height of 69 m and an area of 65 300 m².

Plaza de Armas

Located in the commune of Santiago, it is the nucleus of the historical center of the capital of the country. It is located right in the quadrant formed by the Cathedral and Monjitas streets on the north side, May 21 and State on the east side, Company and Merced on the south and Paseo Ahumada and Paseo Puente on the west.

Municipal theater

It is the main stage of Chile for classical music. The construction began with a decree issued during the presidency of Manuel Montt (1851-1861), on January 7, 1853 and was designed by the architect Francois Brunet De Baines and the civil engineer Felipe Augusto Charme de l'Isle, Both of French origin.

Official government building

The official government building, seat to the President of the Republic, is generally known as La Moneda. It also hosts the Home Office, the General Secretariat of the Presidency, the General Secretariat of the Government and the Ministry of Social Development.

Lastarria Road

In 2001 Lastarria road is opened as a pedestrian promenade from Rosal to Merced road, hosting an antique market, second hand books and independent design stalls, as well as being the natural stage to different artistic performances.

    Vera Cruz church construction works are finished; it is the first important building located on 124 José Victorino Lastarria road. It is one of its main attractions in the area due to its architectural style designed by Claudio Brunet de Baines and Fermin Vivaceta. The Church was declared as historic heritage and listed building in 1983.

  • 1997

    Declared historic district due to its fascinating architecture of the surrounding buildings in addition to historic monuments which provide special value to the area: Fine Art Museum, Bruna Palace, Posada del Corregidor, Vera Cruz church, among others.

  • 2012

    The construction of The Singular Santiago hotel begins in February. The project comprises 6,500 m2 of built area divided into nine floors which include 62 rooms, a restaurant, spa, gym, terrace and luxury meeting rooms. The architectural design was led by Federico Prieto and the interior design by Enrique Concha.

  • 2016

    The Singular Santiago Lastarria Hotel obtains membership to The Leading Hotels of the World. This exclusive international group consists of only 400 luxury hotels around the world, selected after careful assessment based on the standards of high quality and personalized service rendered to our customers.
