Kayak Patagonian fjords
Full day – Advanced
We will depart from the hotel in the morning and head towards Puerto Consuelo, the oldest estancia in Last Hope Province founded in 1893 by the German pioneer Hermann Eberhard. This will be our base camp for this excursion. After a safety briefing we will paddle for about two hours through the Eberhard Fjord, along the way passing by Puerto Prat, a settlement founded in 1899, and the historic “Island of the Dead”, that was used as a cemetery to bury the first settlers. In this area of “protected waters” it is possible to see a variety of birds, such as Chilean flamingos, black-necked swans, Coscoroba swans, red-gartered coots, and great grebes. We will finally arrive to Guanaco Island, which divides the water between the Last Hope Fjord, Señoret Channel, and the Eberhard Fjord. Here we will admire a panoramic view surrounded by spectacular mountains that have been molded by glacial events and the harsh Patagonian weather. After a break and lunch, we will paddle back to Puerto Consuelo to finally head to the hotel.
